During several of the upcoming events, we will refer to “class t-shirt colors”. In order for our parents and staff to identify their child/students, we are asking that each classroom try to dress in identifying t-shirt colors.  The following list is a recommendation, not a requirement.

  • (Rain date: Friday, May 24)
  • Walk starts at 1:30 (come and walk with your kids!!**)
  • Each class walks together. Up Hillsboro, loops Tammarron and back down to school (1.8 miles)
  • Kindergarten classes only walk a portion of this distance
  • Every student should wear comfortable walking shoes (no flip flops)
  • Each class wears their class color
  • Please leave your pets home ~ kids only

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher appreciation week is May 6th-10th this year. Watch your child’s backpack for a sheet to write out messages of appreciation to teachers and staff which will be posted for all to see. The PTO will be providing meals, snacks, and other surprises for the teachers throughout the week. If you are interested in more opportunities to show teachers and staff your appreciation, see their favorite things sheets HERE.

At this event, you will hear about the “state of the district” from Superintendent Behm and will also hear from a few teachers and/or administrators about how the grants awarded by the Foundation are making an impact in the classroom.

There is no cost to attend, however we hope after hearing about the impact the Forest Hills Public Schools Foundation makes on the schools, teachers, and students, you will be compelled to make a contribution to support their vital work.

GRG Pre-Registration Information

**Registration is open at Grand Rapids Gymnastics for our Parent’s Night Out Fundraiser!**

To register your child(ren), call GRG at 616-975-2992 or stop by 1601 Galibraith Ave SE – mention Thornapple Parent’s Night Out Event

GRG will take payment at time of registration.

Pre-registration will allow for easier drop-off on the day of the event. They will also be able to staff the event accordingly!

Grand Rapids Gymnastics has made their gym available for Thornapple students (ages 4 years and up) on Friday, April 26th so that parents may attend the Apple Seed – Parent’s Night Out fundraiser. GRG will also donate 50% of the proceeds they receive that evening back to Thornapple Elementary.

2019 AppleSeed Teacher Experiences Silent Auction

2019 Appleseed Teacher Experiences

Lyon: Principal of the Day – Winning student will greet students in the morning, help Mr. Lyon with morning announcements, assist with lunch duties and hand out Ranger tickets. (Experience must take place on a Friday).

Lyon: Winning student will receive (4) Zoo Passes to visit the zoo with Mr. Lyon and 2 additional friends.

Fowler: Whole class gets to eat their own lunches in our classroom together with Mrs. Fowler. The winning student gets to pick an extra activity like extra recess, nature walk or play time in classroom. Moffat: Winning student gets to choose a snack-time picnic in the classroom.

Vinton: Winning student will attend a Forest Hills Central girls soccer home game (2019 spring season) with Mrs. Vinton and 1 additional friend.

Feutz, Green, Hayhurst: Winning student will receive a pizza picnic lunch for the entire first grade team, followed by a special activity chosen by your child (ie, extra recess, class game, free choice play, playground chalk art, bubbles).

Beverly: Winning student will attend a Griffins Hockey game (4 tickets included) and a ride on the Zamboni machine.

Meyer: Winning student will attend a Forest Hills Musical with Mrs. Meyer and 2 additional friends. Musical date for the 2019/20 school year.

Neumeir: Winning student will receive a candle making experience at Wax Poetic with Mrs. Neumeir and Mrs. Olson.

Olson: Winning student will receive a candle making experience at Wax Poetic with Mrs. Neumeir and Mrs. Olson.

Hurley: Winning student will join Mr. Hurley and 2 additional students in the bounce house at the 2019 Fun and Fitness Day.

Clancy: Winning student will receive an outing to attend a movie with Ms. Clancy and one additional friend from class.

VerBerkmoes: Winning student will receive an outing to attend a movie with Mrs. VerBerkmoes and one additional friend from class.

Williams: Winning student will receive an outing to attend a movie with Mr. Williams and one additional friend from class.

Ebels: Winning student will receive one hour of laser tag at Battle GR with his/her whole class, Mrs. Ebels and Mr. Lyon. Winning student will receive perks such as getting to pick the date of the outing, choosing classmates to be on his/her team, choosing the order of the games, choosing the zombie, and assigning Mrs. Ebels and Mr. Lyon to a team.

Gustafson: Winning student will receive an outing of fowling and pizza at Fowling Warehouse with Mrs. Gustafson and up to three friends from class (along with Ms. Visser).

Thornton: Winning student will receive a candle making experience at Wax Poetic with Mrs. Thornton and one additional friend from class.

Visser: Winning student will receive an outing of fowling and pizza at Fowling Warehouse with Ms. Visser and up to three friends from class (along with Mrs. Gustafson).
