Thornappled!  – UPDATE

Thank you Thornapple community for an outstanding Thornappled fundraiser!

Your donations and support made this an extremely successful event.  This year, Thornappled exceeded our $4500 goal by raising $6871 and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing Thornapple Elementary community as well as our dedicated volunteer Harvesters.

All money that was raised will directly impact our students and staff by helping fund new literacy materials, classroom supplies, specials curriculum and cultural arts events (such as the super cool HoChunk Nation visit we had last week!).

Wanted: Substitute Teachers!

Did you know that you do not need a teaching certificate to be a guest teacher in schools anymore?  If you have 90 or more semester credit hours from a four-year-accredited university you could guest teach in one of our Thornapple classrooms or in a classroom anywhere in West Michigan.  If you are interested or have questions you can contact Mr. Lyon for more information, if you’re ready to get started you can login to to www.EduStaff.org to start the application process.  Guest teachers are scarce across the state so this is one more way you could support our school and students.

FHPS Foundation Gala

Did you know that the taxes you pay designated for “local schools” do not actually make it to Thornapple in their entirety?  Those taxes are collected by Lansing and distributed equally on a per pupil bases across the state.

FHPS district ranks #1 in the GR area and top 10 in Michigan due to the financial assistance provided by the FHPS Foundation and its donors.

The FHPS Foundation’s biggest event is the Gala.  The Gala will take place November 7 @ 6pm at Frederik Meijer Gardens.  It is always a fun event!

The FHPS Foundation’s “Support Our School Initiative” will be promoted at the Gala. It’s goal is to raise enough funds (approx. $90,000) to fully fund every need identified by all FHPS principals. You can support the initiative even if you don’t attend the Gala by making a donation online at www.fhpsf.org.  Any donation ($5, $10, $50, $100+) makes a difference!

There are a few tables still available for the Gala. Contact Caroline Tilton at carolinetilton@yahoo.com if you are interested in attending and would like to be placed in a table with other Thornapple parents.
